Gunman on Virginia Tech Campus

Having the censor come up in his posts has nothing to do with self control. The language a person uses daily as a normal part of their vocabulary is inconsiquential.

You can carry in ABC establishments. All you have to do is uncover and open carry. Quite common. We've been trying for the last 8 years to get the restaurant ban repealed.

According to the VA AG, concealed carry is legal on college campuses. At VPI, any student, faculty, or staff that is caught will be fired, expelled, etc.

All they can ask me (or any other CHP holder) to do is leave.

VCU is the only campus in VA where it is an actual crime to carry.

But as I said, those who would do something like this would never bother to acquire a CHP. I know many people who have their CHP and I cannot see a single one of them snapping. It takes a different kind of person to stand up and realize that they are the only one responsible for their safety.

A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.

House Bill 1572 didn't get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.

The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill's defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Del. Dave Nutter, R-Christiansburg, would not comment Monday because he was not part of the subcommittee that discussed the bill.

Most universities in Virginia require students and employees, other than police, to check their guns with police or campus security upon entering campus. The legislation was designed to prohibit public universities from making "rules or regulations limiting or abridging the ability of a student who possesses a valid concealed handgun permit ... from lawfully carrying a concealed handgun."

The legislation allowed for exceptions for participants in athletic events, storage of guns in residence halls and military training programs.

Last spring a Virginia Tech student was disciplined for bringing a handgun to class, despite having a concealed handgun permit. Some gun owners questioned the university's authority, while the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police came out against the presence of guns on campus.

In June, Tech's governing board approved a violence prevention policy reiterating its ban on students or employees carrying guns and prohibiting visitors from bringing them into campus facilities.

Beg to differ. Go into a courtroom, sure there is enough control to not say words that would get censored. I can even understand someone saying them, but the effort to type them when you know they are prevented, come on.

And I guess we'll just agree to disagree. Sorry thats why you always have the stories of "They were such a nice person, I never pictured them doing this"

NSSB, if you want to argue the point that faculty should be allowed to pack, I'll give that some credibility. It doesn't mean that they aren't going to make mistakes, that a shooter wouldn't know that and target them, etc, but that scenario I can at least see as possible.

That is fine as well.

You are really hung up on mistakes, etc.

Which is worse, someone with a CHP makes a mistake and takes out a person while they take out the shooter OR the shooter has run of the place and kills as many as they want while the police stage outside for their safety?

"Again, this is the story circulating, hasn't been confirmed. But the story is he made many of the students stand up, face the wall and shot them in the back of the head, execution style. He's described as "Asian, had on a bullet proof vest, body armour, and numerous rounds of ammo."

And you're hung up on a CHP having a perfect scenario.

Someone who loves to hunt and has their CHP, great. Its a different scenario if you're in a shooting environment and someone is shooting back. Deer don't shoot back.

Scenario.

Shooter walks in classroom. You're carrying. He starts shooting, where is your gun? You have to get to it. Maybe you do, maybe you don't. You're in another room, you try to come to that room, you have to find out the situation before you walk in shooting.

I'm for guns man, thats the bad part. I'm not for guns in a college or school environment.
